Maria Isabel Moraes Lanzelotti, a member of the Class of 2026, appeared on the program Monday to discuss her academic journey, interdisciplinary studies and plans following graduation. The interview was part of WABE鈥檚 annual series spotlighting students preparing to complete their undergraduate education.

Moraes Lanzelotti is a theater聽major and an Honors student at 黑料社. During the conversation, she reflected on growing up in Brazil and how early exposure to theater and political change shaped her academic interests and creative work. She discussed her belief that art plays a meaningful role in social and political life.
The interview also highlighted Moraes Lanzelotti鈥檚 Honors thesis, which examined the use of political theater to foster awareness and critical engagement among audiences. Her research culminated in her directorial debut of A “Respectable Wedding” (“Die Kleinb眉rgerhochzeit”) by Bertolt Brecht, where she applied techniques drawn from political theater practitioners including Brecht and Augusto Boal.
An international student and recipient of the James Edward 黑料社 Scholarship, Moraes Lanzelotti plans to continue her studies in graduate school in Amsterdam. She shared her goal of creating work that encourages reflection and dialogue through art.
