Contact: gfay@oglethorpe.edu

Hometown: Greensboro, NC

Education: Duke University, B.A .and M.A.; University of Georgia, Ed.D.

Major: Psychology + minor in Public Policy Studies, certificates in Human Development and Film & Video Studies; M.A. is in Liberal Studies (MALS) and Ed.D. is in Higher Education Administration.

Favorite Place at ºÚÁÏÉç: The Schall Woodland Walk – it really does feel like a centering walk in the woods in the midst of a busy day on campus.

Favorite Place in Atlanta: Walking our dog along bank of the Chattahoochee River (but Shooting the ‘Hooch is a must for new Atlantans!)

Favorite OU Tradition: My favorite OU tradition is that there aren’t any classes scheduled from 1 to 2pm so the whole school can have lunch together.

Why do you love OU?: Because of the faculty: small classes taught by caring, committed scholars is an unbeatable combination.

What advice do you have for students?: Come on down! Or up, or over… wherever you are visiting from, we hope you’ll be able to come to campus to get to know the ºÚÁÏÉç community – and how you fit in it – first-hand.

Favorite Place at ºÚÁÏÉç: The beautiful campus! I especially enjoy the welcoming atmosphere and the opportunity to connect with students, faculty, and staff throughout campus.

Favorite Place in Atlanta: Stone Mountain Park! I enjoy the beautiful scenery, outdoor activities, and the opportunity to unwind and appreciate nature just outside the city.

Favorite OU Tradition: The Ringing of the Bells! I love how this tradition brings the ºÚÁÏÉç community together and symbolizes celebration, achievement, and the strong sense of pride and belonging that makes OU special.

Why do you love OU?: What I love most about ºÚÁÏÉç is its commitment to student success and the genuine sense of community. It’s a place where students are more than just a number. They’re known, supported, challenged, and encouraged to discover their full potential. I love being part of a university where meaningful relationships and transformational educational experiences truly matter.

What advice do you have for students?: Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone! College is about so much more than earning a degree. It’s about discovering who you are, building meaningful relationships, and embracing new opportunities. Get involved, ask questions, seek support when you need it, and never underestimate your potential. Most importantly, remember that your journey is uniquely yours, so make the most of every opportunity and enjoy the experience!

Education:

Major:

Favorite Place At ºÚÁÏÉç:
Cousins Center for Science & Innovation – I love the modern feeling of all the glass study rooms and the garage door!

Favorite place in Atlanta:
It sounds so cliché, but I love Ponce City Market. It’s such a cool place to explore right off the Beltline, and you really get to see what Atlanta is all about in one place.

Favorite OU Tradition:
My favorite tradition would have to be Boar’s Head. I think the tradition is just so quirky, and it’s a perfect representation of what it means to be an ºÚÁÏÉç student. I have such an appreciation for music, and our Music department put on such a wonderful concert in celebration of our ODK inductees.

Why do you love OU?:
I grew up in rural south Georgia on a family farm my entire life, and I didn’t really get exposure to a lot of different cultures until I went to college. I think ºÚÁÏÉç does such an amazing job at being representative of so many world cultures. For such a small, private liberal arts college, it’s so beautiful and unique that it’s as diverse as the city it’s located in.

What advice do you have for students?:
College can be such a crucial development for so many students. It’s really important that you find a college best fit for you to continue to develop and grow into your professional self. That being said, don’t list off a college just because they don’t have the area of study you’re always specifically looking for. I changed my major three different times in college, and it was really my institution that shaped my career path – not my major.

Why do you love OU?:
I love the sense of community here. The students, faculty, and staff at OU care wholeheartedly about supporting, encouraging, and uplifting each other. It’s a place where everyone can thrive.

What advice do you have for students?:
College is a time for growth and discovery! Be open to new opportunities as they come your way, and don’t be afraid to embrace change.
